Glenn Cox was born in Cape Town in 1969.
“Painting is something that I have always done; it is a part of me. My earliest dreams are of being an artist.”
After matriculating from Plumstead High School in 1987, Glenn studied art at UCT and Cape Tech. Although he attended various institutions he is mostly self taught and enjoys his independence from the art scene in Cape Town.
Glenn started his art career as a sculptor, which still influences his technique and subject matter of his paintings today. He is inspired by dreams, myths, stories and daily life interactions. “In my paintings I try to create fun and colorful sequences of events, frozen in time. Generally I like to let my work speak for itself. Words are not my strength.”
Glen works in acrylic and oil and uses thick paint application. His paintings can be described as whimsical, even though the stories he tells with his fantasy/circus world has a detailed and serious theme. This makes his art a visual diary of his perception of life.
He had his first solo exhibition in 1992 and several solo and group exhibitionsever since. His latest solo-exhibition was in February 2007 with Exhibitions @ Groot Constantia.
He exhibits in his hometown, Paarl, in various galleries in Cape Town, as well as the Rossouw Galleries in Hermanus and Groot Constantia. His work forms part of many art collections locally and internationally.
